What is the difference between a skylight and a rooflight?

There is no technical difference between a rooflight and a skylight, It is more a case of what name is used commonly. In the UK, rooflight is the more common term.

Do you need planning permission to install a rooflight window?

As a general rule, you don’t need planning permission as long as you follow these conditions;

Rooflights can not protrude more than 150 millimetres above the existing roof plane. No changes can be higher than the highest part of roof or stand out above the roof ridge.

How long do rooflights last?
